Dragon fest was plagued by lag so bad in 07, that they had to redo it, which was massively cool.
It allowed us to fully redo the quests, and then the whole charge running thing was redone as well.
I got SOoo many presents that year from collecting from the afk rings, I was able to sell them for 500g afterwards, and make serious cash back finally.
Unfortunately, the next year was after the change in how presents were dropped, or not dropped anymore.
That did however, aliveiate the lag issues for a lot of people.
A simple thing helps keep lag to a low level, stay away from the games area. If you can avoid going over to where people from the rings load, that keeps your computer running smoothly.
Although problem with that is, as soon as you go up to the headmasters area, or over by the fountain, you're in range of them, and you slog down while your machine loads everyone in.
Odds are, we'll get one of the masks that the actors wear, that way the devs don't have to work at anything this time around, and everyone is happy nonetheless. The only question is... which mask will it be?
/slaphead
DOH! forgot about those. Yeah, I've actually done that 2 years running now. One chara I've actually kept, and worked to make her survivor after that. (took 19 godddamn tries however, and this was WITH FFF. The hardest part was my own stupidity and thinking I could solo easy crap early on. Bosses being the other survivor killer.)she did eventually die, though I'm not sure how. She died at the following canthan new year trying to run a charge, but when I checked her exp, it was odd, she had several hundred more exp then when it had supposedly stopped at that point, meaning I had gotten her killed earlier, just unsure when.
the mini missions are HARD even for expert players. Mainly it's the fact you're running a 4 man team against tombs level creatures.
One thing about those quests that bugged me, you only get 70 some odd tokens for doing them.
I would have THOUGHT that if you did them all, you'd get something more. But that was never put into play. So in the end, people are better off just running more charas through the regular quests and get almost a full stack of tokens each time.
The last one can be easily done with either two heros borrowed from another account, or just join with some other group who has a level 20 on hand.
Edit:and kain? Not all of us are uber duber players, able to laugh unto the face of oncoming traffic. Some of us have trouble with these higher level foes, and have to take the easy way out. If anyone wants to offer advice on how to deal with the mini missions with a 4 man team, please, go right ahead and regale us with your expertiese of gaming awesomeness.
*I thought any deaths in an outpost didnt count towards the death count.
*4 man team against tomb level creatures is hard for experts? Dam.
*Do you mean something like an extra 100 tokens if you complete them all? That would make doing them all worthwhile, depending on the reward. Also, quests only provide 240 tokens, not a stack. But close enough.
*Lol, i need lots of help on those missions. But luckily, I have decided against doing them.

Just checked that out. I thought it would be something like the easy Wintersday snowman dungeon quests that you could just camp at the door for, and let the snowmen respawn and kill the grentches. Ah well.

And no, I will not "regale" you with my awesomeness... I can't tell you a specific build. I play warrior mostly, and have every hero decked out. I experiment... I lose, I win... I move on.
So youre saying elite area farming is more worthwhile than trying endlessly to complete this and failing as a fair few of us do? Sounds decent.

They are just some missions where you stand in a explorable area surrounding an outpost and kill level 20+ creatures, with similiar skills as creatures from the "Tomb of the Primeval Kings" elite area.

But they have exact same stats and skills as the counterparts they play.
Usually the 'tank and spank' method, or visage/famine tends to work in small groups. That's the only way I can think of doing those.
Hey blade, your link is busted.
Tank and spank? Lol, sounds...CHILD ABUSE! You should share this build with us.

I thought so too. But when it comes to a survivor, are you gonna risk it? Fortunately, I had long ago passed l3 survivor on that chara, so I wasn't terribly worried. But I got nailed while running with one, checked deaths, said she had 1.
I was pissed for a while, walked away from the computer, came back, and decided to do a screenshot of the exp level, when I noticed a discrepency in her current exp, vs her survivor exp.
The only thing that would explain that is if she had died sometime before, but I just never noticed it. (might have been during quest run arounds, I don't know.)

4 man team against level 24's and 28's anything is going to be hard. And tombs creatures have pretty decent skill bars. The wrathfull storms love casting Shower and firestorm all the time, and when you have more then 4 of them on your group, it can get a bit dicey.

Either extra tokens, or some sort of prize for doing them all. Rumors were going around the first year you would get a special mini or mask for doing them all, but that was just a rumor.
For most, the time and effort involved just isn't worth it. Though for some, who ARE experts at this, they can handle the disparity in group size easily. It's just that if you fail, and miss the window of when the mission is available, it's gone. You get nothing beyond the drops from the mobs. At which, they're not even inscibable items.
*Lol, i need lots of help on those missions. But luckily, I have decided against doing them.
Don't we all.
*Tank and spank? Lol, sounds...CHILD ABUSE! You should share this build with us.
Tank and spank is the term used for all the other MMorpgs that use the agro system differently then here. Mainly WoW, but also in Lineage2, and a few other games.
I'm sure you all understand what Agro is. Aggression of the monsters to player charas other other mobs. Meaning they go into fight mode.
When a Tank chara runs into agro range of mobs, he generates X agro. If other players come into agro range, they generate agro as well, but since Tank chara got first agro, usually he has a lot more, especially if he's been beating on the mobs.
But in most games, once other charas start casting spells, either damage spells or healing spells on the tank, the agro they generate on the mob for themselves becomes greater then what the Tank has managed to generate on their own. Usually mobs will give more ago to squishy targets, just like here.
UNLIKE here, however, most of these other games offer what are known as 'agro control' skills. Skills which do no damage, but generate agro to the tank. It simulates hitting the mob with damage, without actually DOING damage.
Thus, the Tank keeps the agro ON them, and away from everyone else. Which means they're all free to 'spank' the offending mob.
Tank... and Spank.
That's why when you have people come here from WoW, and they make a warrior class, they're totally baffled why they have no agro skills, nor can they keep mobs focused on them.
It's why 'soft' targets like 600/55 monks, and Permasins work better then actual 'tanks' here in this game. They have less armor, and generally have less HP.
And is why you use those in the visage famine builds.
These are where you have the tank head into the group of mobs, usually preprotted and SB'd. While there, they use ancestor's visage, and it's counterpart to cause the mobs to loose energy for each hit on said tank.
Creates a level 1...8...10 spirit (30...78...90 lifespan). Deals 10...30...35 damage to creatures in range that reach 0 energy.
Famine coupled with Sympathetic Visage and/or Ancestor's Visage is extremely powerful when used on a single tank who is absorbing damage. It is one of the combinations that becomes more and more powerful as the number of enemies (particularly melee enemies) increases
The trick is surviving long enough for this to work.
And it doesn't work with permasins because they don't get hit.

I said what I mean and I mean what I said. Have fun. If a challenge isn't fun, do something else. If you want it to be easier, or more "worth your while", I can't help you there.
Its the 4th of july weekend next week, and for years in the past, the Dragon Festival has been on this weekend. Will it be this year?
Dragon Festival will be this weekend, and all events that you know and love from past Dragon Festivals will be there. :)
The person who recalled that we typically publish an event page a week before the event is correct. The web team is working on publishing the event page for that this week.
I can't say what the mask will be, but I've seen the artwork and it's AWESOME. I personally like it more than last year's. :) I think a lot of people will like it (though of course it won't be to everyone's taste, as with all things. :))
As I feard, always the weekend I'm gone :P
At least this event has a hat collector, so I can get it afterwards.
Seeing as we've already gotten the grasp and the demon actors masks, I'm betting the new one will be one of the remaining masks
Giant torment claw on the head FTW!
I know Ari will be thrilled! She loves the festivals and events!
Ahh, who knows me better than anyone?
He's right, this brought a big smile to my face. Can't wait. Thanks so much for the update, Regina. Sounds like you guys are crazy busy over there - good luck.

Oh great, I can just see the QQ threads now: "But Regina said the hat would be awesome, and they give us this ^*@%?! Anet, you sux!!"
But anyway, thanks for the update, hope to see you there!!
