I don't know about you, but having real money to spend (while still receiving the product, of course) is preferable then some lowsy digital items that have absolutely no use besides virtual party'ing.

Well, that's a nice idea, that the real money means more then the digital stuff, but here's the thing that gets me about that.
When asked, people have said they'd be willing to spend money to be able to BUY the older hats from the store that they missed.

Yeah, what you fail to see is that some people value having the money more, and some people value having the stuff more. I am willing to bet that if you did a poll, you would get people voting on both sides.

(Money back vs. chance to buy missed hat?)

(Sure, if it happened to me, I would hate to miss the hats, but I would rather have the storage panes/character slots that I was going to buy, plus the money that I was going to pay for them, in recompense, over the chance to spend more money on a hat that I will probably wear a couple of times, if that. The point about the hat giveaway for me is the fun of being there, and the hats are tokens to remind me of that, rather than an essential fashion item.)

Good on ANet/NCsoft for the really decent reparatory action that they are taking on the accounts that were unjustly banned, and here's hoping that they have fixed whatever problem caused it in the first place so that it does not happen again.
