Hi
I haven't played guildwars before and I am quite convinced to play it.
I've played wow for some time but I was disapointed about blizzard and it's not so fun anymore.
So I know I definitely want to try guild wars 2 but it hasn't released yet and my wow account's subscrition is also expired and I want to play something for my free time.
However, from what I've read in guild wars forums, it seems to be going to an end. (is it??)
and I am not sure if I should buy guild wars (not 2) before guild wars 2 or not.
It seems pretty cheap, comparing to wow or other games, but is it worth buying? cuz I am not sure if I can get it on the offline (It's not easy for me to purchase through online)
But I want to try it before guild war 2, at least if it's still alive or maybe still fairly enough people there to play with.
btw I mostly like to play pvp contents, I really like pvp, I played Battlegrounds and arena in wow, but i didnt like the way pve is in wow. I am not sure but from what I read in guild wars forum, it seems to have different style of pve in guild wars, like single rpg games or so, that I might like it..
Worth buying?
Yes. Most definitely worth it. There will be no more expansions for it, and much of the player base is pretty jaded (sometimes without knowing it). Yet, Guild Wars is awesome, pretty much the best you can find in this genre.
As for being alive, some parts are (especially in american districts). In some places, finding people can be difficult, but not difficult enough to be a problem.
PvP/PvE?
Guild Wars is PvP. What I mean by that is that it's made to be a PvP game from the bottom up. Most games with PvP are PvE games where you happen to fight other players. In Guild Wars PvE, you have a PvP game where you fight AI-controlled monsters.
There are several modes of PvP, more than in WoW. If you enjoyed battlegrounds, make sure you buy GW Factions, as that will give you access to Alliance Battle, Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood, which all resemble battlegrounds quite closely. If arena PvP was your favorite, the Codex Arena and Guild vs Guild matches (available no matter what you buy) might be interesting to you.
Note, however, if you want to play truly competitively in PvP, you need all of the campaigns, since they each contain different skills. If you just want the thrill of fighting other human players, you can get any of the campaigns (except Eye of the North, that's not playable standalone).
About the PvE, yes it's different from WoW. The biggest difference is that you are all alone in the PvE world - you meet people in town, and you can group up with them if you want. If you don't want, then that's fine too, as you can have a party of AI-controlled helpers (called "henchmen" or "heroes"). No matter what, as soon as you go through the town gates, there's no one else out there: just you, whoever you invited to play with you, and all the enemies of course.
One more thing - since there's no one else in the PvE world, there is no world PvP like there is in WoW. No player can attack you in PvE. You need to go to a PvP area to fight people.
I don't know much about pvp so my post probably isn't very helpful, but GW certainly isn't dead yet, not even close.
The American districts in the game seem to be far busier than the European ones, I think a lot of the English speaking players like to hang out on the American districts, and the Germans and the French (etc) have occupied the European districts. (Of course there are a lot of English speaking players on the European English districts as well though)
I think GW is definitely worth buying, but then again can you expect a different answer on a GW fan forum? I would warmly recommend trying PvE as well, but I can understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea... I'm not really that interested in PvP either.
btw what I was worried was because of guild wars 2, Of course I want to play it but what if it comes out when I just hit max level in guild war 1. ? :X
and also can I buy Package on offline game store or something like that? I hope so..

GW is going towards an end, but it's quite far from it. We have had lots of new applicants in our Guild recently, especially with GW2 trailer showing up. And many players are trying to get something done for their HoM. So GW is quite active, and will remain so for a while yet, perhaps all the way to GW2.
GW used to be as expensive as WoW, if you would get all the games as they got out. Now it's a bargain. But the content is top quality.
For PvP, it's competitive in small teams vs small teams. It's not randomly ganking innocent bystanders, or wandering around aimlessly looking for your next target. Let me give you some examples:
RA and CA work like Arenas did in WoW. Join up, and enjoy.
JQ, FA, and AB are places where your team of 8 or 12 competes against another's team of 8 or 12 to get a task done. The task is complex enough to stay entertaining for a long while.
GvG and HA require more organization and better teamplay to succeed, so it's a higher level of competition. Elite PvP if you will.

Guild Wars' (original) focus was PvP. It still shines.
WoW's focus is PvE. It still sucks.

I think you will find that that is not a problem. At all.

Getting max level is fast, because it's not the point of the game. Outside prophecies, you can get a max char in a day of play. GW has almost nothing to slow down your progress, except if you play badly. And normal difficulty is challenging, but not too much, especially if you find a few friends to help.
I'm pretty sure you can get quite a few things in your Hall of Monuments before GW2... Many minis go for under 1k, some titles are relatively easy to max, and elite armors are generally not that expensive if you are careful with money.

PvP packages are (afaik) only available in the online store. However, playing through the campaign casually and asking for advice on what skills to unlock for the roles you like to play in PvP you'll be able to unlock whatever skills you want whenever you want.
As for reaching max level, you'll reach max in ~ 10-12 hours probably. GW2 hits in about 10000000 ~ 12000000 hours. I'm guessing you'll be fine.
