NCsoft released its quarterly report on 6 November, showing a not so surprising rise in both sales and profit. With 470k sales in Europe and 500k in the USA it is the biggest release of the year. Aion is now bigger then Lineage when it comes to generating money for NCsoft.
As always, there isn't much info about GW in there. Except that some people are still buying it. Making GW responsible for 4.084 million KRW or about $3,5 million in sales. Which is 21% less then the previous quarter, but 9,8% more then in the 3rd quarter of 2008. Total sales so far this year are down 25,8% compared to last year, but that isn't too surprising for a game as old as GW. And I remember Q1 2008 having a one-time correction. Really took bad the info in 2009 isn't as detailed as in 2008 anymore. In 2008 the reports showed the number of boxes sold, but they don't list that anymore in 2009.
I would be very interested in seeing the numbers behind the report tho, because it looks like only a part of the sales of GW goes to Anet. Where does the rest go? NC Interactive or NC Europe?
Noticed no mention of NCsoft West, thought they would put all their western parts into that one? Anyone knows what happened with that plan? Or will they start that in 2010?
[EDIT]Listening to the conference call right now and NCsoft is expecting GW2 and Blade and Soul to release in 2011, with probably a closed beta in 2010.
I'm with you LyKaN, it's been almost 3 years since GWEN was released and we first got information on GW2; the plan was that the beta would be this year, then they pushed it back to closer to the release date, and we've heard nothing else except speculation that the game will be released between 2010 and 2012. I don't know about some people, but I for one am ready for a new game; you can only do the same things in Guild Wars 1 over and over before you fall asleep in the process.
So, you guys rather want a shoddily and hastily done quick release than (hopefully) a quite bug-free and polished release?
Interesting.
Wow where did you pull that one from? All I said is that I was expecting/hoping the release to be next year. I never said I wanted them to rush it, or it SHOULD be released next year.
Believe me, after UT3 being released as RC_7 on the install disk & all the problems that followed that rushed release I really dont want my favorite game rushed. I can wait, as I said earlier I THOUGHT it was going to be released next year.
I also thought that we could expect a closed beta in the beginning of next year and a release date around X-mas 2010. Not that I want them to hurry or anything, but it's really been freakin' long. Well, it feels freakin' long.

Good thing a lot of new games are being released daily. Feel free to play something else while waiting for GW2; I hear there are a lot of MMORPGs being released monthly (many of which are being released too soon, with a strong lack of content and an abundance of bugs).
