If you're going to go with Firefox, I'd suggest installing NoScript. You can set it to let sites that you trust through, and it can automatically block random IPs trying to load things on the pages you go to.
I'm sure ANet is intentionally giving out infos. What I'm concerned about is that they themselves may be breached somewhere and they aren't realizing it. Although technically, similar things can be said for ads on forums like here.
I'm starting to think that's less likely, but it still doesn't do much in pinpointing the source of the problem.
Edit: I meant "I'm sure ANEt is NOT intentionally giving out infos." /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm
Well, at least they acted fast on my request to re-open my account. Got it unlocked within 9 hours of filing the ticket.
Ryuu: I've always considered my own internet activities to be pretty safe. I use chrome, have avast and ad-aware installed and my passwords are typically random slap-togethers of numbers and letters that I manage to remember in some odd way. I don't use the -password switch, though.
You have to admit that it seems really weird that there's been this (|----------|) many incidents lately. Of course I don't think Anet is leaking info, I'd never believe that, but there does seem to be something wrong, somewhere.

Anet obviously won't intentionally leak info, but the question is whether or not there is a breach in their security.
They also will never admit that there was one as that would be tantamount to corporate suicide. But trust me, if there was a breach they are trying to keep it as hush hush as possible and are already working on it. (Provided that they know what exactly is wrong and how to fix it.)
Well, I would just like to report that my account was whacked sometime over the last 12 hours. My password was changed, which gave me that sinking feeling, and sure enough, after changing it through NCSoft and logging in - my stuff is gone.
I have always taken security seriously, and this worries me. I have never done anything that would allow my account to be compromised. This is really distressing (aside from the disappointment of loosing a lot of stuff it took me a long time to accumulate - including mini-pets, zcoins, etc.), I have three other accounts, which thus far have been untouched, but if there is some kind of exploit or security breach, it may be only a matter of time.

I suspect the in game store and if I'm not mistaken anet does not run the store. It may be sub contracted out to a 3rd party whose security not be up to par.
I do like chrome but some things don't work very well in chrome. I have had several sites deny logins and such because of my browser. I would go with firefox, it is by far the best browser that is the most supported.
It's true that some things don't work well in Chrome. However, I still use it primarily on my computer. I figure that if web designers see Chrome users more and more often, they'll start taking Chrome into account when designing the sites. I'm pretty sure that Chrome will also get better with time.

It may or may not be. Out of the four accounts I use (the two main accounts of which I used yesterday), only the one was hit. I have used the in-game store on all four accounts and have never had an issue. I haven't used the store recently - I think maybe a couple weeks ago at least, and used it on both my main accounts.
Only the one account was hit, and there was plenty of time to hit the others if they had the log-on information. I am currently deep scanning all my systems that I use to play the game, and am so far coming up with nothing (as I expect), so I think there must be something out there that is allowing the hackers to get the account information.
